American classic with a modern twist - A style interview with Beth | 40plusstyle.com

Beth has been making waves in the 40+Community as her fashion, which she describes as Amercan classic with a modern twist, resonates with many 40+ women. Let's find out more about her!

Can y'all tell us a trivial bit more about yourself?

Hmmmm, well, here goes. I'm a Midwest girl who traipsed around the world later on my married man with three boys, two dogs, and one cat in tow. Now that my husband's retired, and my children have flown the coop I woke up ane day and decided I would write a book. No joke! And for those of you writers out there, yous understand at that place's a lot more than to writing than coming upwardly with creative ideas. As with anything in life information technology's been a learning process for me these by few years: plot & construction, mechanics, conflict & suspense. Whew! It's a daunting task at best. But I finished my first volume, snagged an agent, so was rejected by all of the major publishing houses. Onward! Currently, I am finishing my 2d book, since forever, but promise to write The Terminate soon.

Every bit a betoken of reference which age group do you belong to or perhaps you are willing to share your historic period?

I recently turned 57! How that happened I have no idea – life just whizzes by.

Can you lot tell u.s. a scrap more about your web log Style at a Sure Historic period and why you created it?

My blog came near quite by accident after a complete stranger complimented me on my 'style.' It was then that I had an Ah Ha moment! Exactly like when I found the inspiration to write a book. I love style, e'er take. And then I thought to myself, "this is it! I'1000 going to start a blog – I'm going to postal service a daily outfit." And I did only that. I never really expected anything to come of information technology, but it's been a fun and wild ride so far! I've besides had such support from my family, and they love to tease me "oh, there goes style at a certain historic period." My married man takes all of my photos, and my children cheer me on. They even chipped in to buy my husband a photographic camera for his birthday terminal year after they noticed those early on shots weren't and then crisp.

How would yous draw your ain manner?

I would describe my overall wait equally American Archetype with a mod twist, which is true casualness at its centre. Nothing besides fancy for me as I love make clean lines that are oft times borrowed from menswear. I'one thousand happiest when I don a pair of blueish jeans and top it off with a sweater. And I'm a total sucker for pearls, charm bracelets, and a classic picket.

What would you consider the nearly of import components of your manner?

I'd accept to say I couldn't live without my blue jeans. Just accessories punch up my mode in no time flat: scarves, belts, hats, baubles, and shoes. A fabled haircut is money well spent, and is truly your best accessory. I don't know what I would do without my stylist'southward nifty hand with a scissors.

beth9

Where exercise you lot live and how does that influence your style?

San Francisco and its microclimate have taught me how to layer-upwards! I recall the scarf craze was born in the Bay out of necessity – staying warm while looking fashionable. And I have to say that California has a laid-back style sense, which is perfect for this casual chic girl.

Do you feel yous have a signature manner?

I favor blazers and blue jeans. When in doubt, I reach for these go-to items, and jazz them up with a pair of heels and a pop of color from my handbag.

beth8

What inspires your outfit choices the nigh?

It's important to clothes for the occasion. We all lead such busy lives: we bulldoze carpool, jet off to vacation, nourish graduations and weddings, head off to work each day. When I'm getting prepare in the morning I gene in "where am I going?" And I effort to showcase a variety of outfits on the blog that answers that question. If I'g off to a power tiffin I'm going to sport a conservative suit. Or if I'm taking our dog, Oscar, off for a long walk I'll most likely be seen in a pair of flats and blue jeans.

beth7

Practise you take things similar color profiling or body type into account when you dress?

I definitely favor certain colors that compliment my peel tone: pinks and corals or greens and dejection. Keeping proportion in mind is and so of import when fine-tuning an outfit. It can make or pause a wait. The devil is in the details so I endeavour to recall this when putting an ensemble together.

beth6

Has your style changed at all afterward turning 40?

I've always been a prepster at heart then nowadays it'southward more well-nigh fine tuning that look, and keeping it fresh. For those readers non familiar with American slang the 'preppy' look is defined past stripes and colors, equestrian vesture, plaid shirts, field jackets, and nautical-themed accessories. The overall expect is rooted in the classics: blazers, chinos, crew neck sweaters, and button-downwards shirts. Think Ralph Lauren, JCrew, L.Fifty. Bean or Lilly Pulitzer.

beth5

Practise yous believe in dressing 'age accordingly' and what does it hateful to y'all?

Historic period appropriate rules were best reserved for my mother's generation that didn't let white after Labor Day or insisted your shoes matched your purse. And bare legs? Never. Thank goodness those barriers have been struck downward, and all for the better. I'm a firm believer in dressing appropriately for the occasion no matter what the age. There may be certain styles I don't particularly favor, but in that location's been far too much negativity on what women 'can or tin't' article of clothing. Who made up those giddy rules to begin with? I'grand all nigh empowering women, and their choices. I'll leave the nit picking to others.

beth4

Would you say that at this stage of your life you lot are now more, or less interested in fashion, mode and the way yous look?

I love way just every bit much today as when I was a teenager flipping through my favorite magazine "Seventeen." There'due south but something nearly the aesthetics – the colors, the cutting, the cloth. Simply what I dearest most about fashion is that you don't have to have a lot of coin to await bully! Which is just as important today every bit years gone by.

beth3

Why is the way you wait of import to you?

There's a definite connection between looking adept and feeling good. Personal style is your calling card to the world. Sometimes, information technology's your showtime and only impression. Brand it count!

Do you lot follow trends? And if yep, which trends excite yous at the moment?

That's a good question. The tagline for my web log is 'trends come and become, simply truthful style is ageless.' I love information technology when a trend is trending again like jean jackets, which I wearable often year-in and year-out. I remember I'g on my 3rd go-round with overalls. So I practice follow trends, but don't chase them.

beth2

Practice yous accept any fashion and fashion tips for women over forty?

As for style and style tips for the over 40 crowd, what I tin can share with you is this: I tin't tell you how many emails I've received from women in their teens and twenties that thank me for being a role model on how to age gracefully. Then my advice is this: don't fear aging, instead allow'south embrace information technology. Let's be authentic, allow's be 18-carat, allow's observe new adventures to commence upon, if we do – then we'll truly be beautiful within and out, and it doesn't injure to add a little lipstick before we head out the door.

What are your plans for your blog and how practise you meet it develop over the coming years?

When I started this whole adventure I never dreamed I would have more than than a handful of women paying attention. I was just pretty darn proud of myself for regularly pulling an outfit together, and posting 5 days a week. But, I don't think the blog will shift its focus from outfits of the day. Information technology'south important to find your niche, and stay focused. Readers like consistency. And hopefully, I've done just that in my ain style, i outfit at a time.
